Stickybeak Reviews from Stephen Tanzer International Wine Cellar
May 18th, 2011

2009 Stickybeak Chardonnay Russian River Valley

Light gold.  Spicy pear, quince and orange scents are brightened by dusty minerality.  Fleshy and gently sweet, with ripe orange and honeyed pear flavors, a touch of warmth, and a buttery note on the finish.  Firms up with air, showing a bitter pear skin quality and some sweet citrus flavors. 88

2009 Stickybeak Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast

Light, bright red.  Strawberry and raspberry on the nose, with complicating notes of white pepper and dried rose.  Light-bodied and brisk, with good clarity to its red fruit flavors.  The firm finish features good grip and a hint of bitter chocolate; I'd like a bit more give but this drinks easily. 88

2009 Stickybeak Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma County

Pale gold.  High-pitched aromas of pear, green apple, lemon zest and honeysuckle.  Surprisingly supple on the palate, with juicy flavors of fresh pineapple and orchard fruits.  The nicely persistent finish shows spice and bee pollen notes and good closing cut. 88

2008 Stickybeak Syrah Napa County

Dark purple.  Blackberry and blueberry aromas, along with notes of woodsmoke, cracked pepper and fresh flowers.  Slightly jammy but light-bodied on the palate, the dark berry flavors showing good sweetness and a seamless texture.  Finishes a bit loose, with the smoky note repeating. 87
